Wesley Jensen’s music is an embryonic sound burgeoning daily into panache emblematic of his modern & classical influences most commonly derivative of folk, experimental, or alternative genres. Lyrically, it is quite ordinary for Mr. Jensen to chronicle sought after questions, personal grief, doubts, relationships, and his refreshingly semi-optimistic worldview.
Wesley Jensen Interview
Liisten: What's it been like for you as an independent artist recently?
Wesley Jensen: Getting to the next level is hard but some things are easier...distribution is better due to online sites and social networking, and recording has become more affordable and easier. I was able to build my own studio, engineer, produce, and mix our record for the price of going somewhere else.
L: "Building Houses" appears on this new release, but has a different feel, what's different and why the changes?
WJ: "Building Houses" was a big song for us on our ep before so I thought it would be great to redo it for the full length record. We wanted a fun, Springsteen-ish track so we did it like that.
L: What music from this past year [2011] has been an influence on you?
WJ: Beach Boys album Pet Sounds was the big inspiration for this record. It's my favorite record of all time; I love that its an ALBUM and not just songs.
L: Are there any other independent bands you'd like to give a shout out to that people should be paying attention to?
WJ: Some of my friends who are fantastic: The Ragged Jubilee, guards, and The Honey Trees.
L: Anything else about this new album that you want to make sure people know?
WJ: Like I mentioned, I engineered, produced, and mixed it all myself. It's my first full length record. It's all about my journey over the last few years through life, love and tears (ending with that track). All that being said its very personal and means a lot to me. Hope you like it.
