Holly Ann is a master when it comes to atmosphere. Her debut album ‘Ravens’ seems to be a sympathetic companion to people with a long stretch of highway ahead of them, a full moon overhead, and a head full of melancholy thoughts. Melancholy is certainly the word to describe ‘Ravens.’ The bittersweet lyrics, the slow, simple melodies, and especially Holly Ann’s consonant-phobic vocals that seems at times on the verge of tears all make ‘Ravens’ a borderline tragic affair. This aptitude for mood combined with the immaculate composition make her debut an exciting offering.
